The Four "D" Format
NBHA and PA03 follows the 4D format, which gives ALL competitors from those just starting to our seasoned professionals, from youth to senior, a chance to compete and succeed in barrel racing.
When you ride in a 4D format, all riders compete, no matter their level of riding skills. The divisions are determined by the fastest time run and adding 1/2 seconds or full seconds to the fastest time. For example, the fastest time of the day is 15.00, which leads the 1D. We add a 1/2 second to that time, which makes a 15.50 the leader of the 2D. A full second to the fastest time has a 16.00 leading the 3D and two seconds to the fastest time makes the winning time of the 4D a 17.00.
1D = 15.00 to 15.49
2D = 15.50 to 15.99
3D = 16.00 to 16.99
4D = 17.00
Following this format, allows everyone an opportunity to place and win at events. More competitors now have a chance to be "in the money" and this format brings larger participants, and therefore, a larger purse, because you no longer have to have the fastest horse to win.
